Nordea begins to study the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on private consumption in Finland based on card transaction statistics
Tracking the volume of transactions made with Nordea’s cards will offer useful information about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumer demand in different regions and categories, such as restaurants, hotels and grocery stores. All transaction data is processed anonymously. With these statistics, we hope to help various operators in society understand the economic consequences of the crisis.
In our research into card transactions, we only use anonymous statistics on the transaction volumes and amounts in different stores – any information about the cardholder, such as their name, address, age or gender, is not included. We do not track any individual cards or cardholders, and the card or the cardholder cannot be identified from the statistics in any circumstances. Nordea will not use the results of its research for commercial purposes. Instead, we will share the results for free in selected channels. Nordea has a legitimate interest to compile statistics on the use of its card products to investigate the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on the economy.
The benefits of such research are significant, and the research does not compromise the privacy of cardholders. However, if you wish to have your card transactions excluded from the statistical study, please fill in the attached form and send it to Nordea via the Omaposti service at nordea.fi/omaposti. Once you have logged in to Omaposti, open a new message and select “GDPR” as the topic. You can add the filled in form to the message by clicking “Add attachment”. To log in to Omaposti, you need Nordea’s access codes or the online banking codes of another Finnish bank.
